Round 6 of the 2019 British F3 championship took place at Brands Hatch this weekend.
It was a great weekend for Douglas Motorsport and Kiern Jewiss. A great qualifying session saw him come away with his maiden British F3 and a second place after managing to secure P2 for race 1 and race 3.
The weekend started so well with Kiern Jewiss posting great times in qualifying, he had enough speed around the track to earn P2 starting position in races 1 and 3. Starting position is vital at Brands as overtaking is difficult.
Jewiss was able to maintain his second place throughout the race and started to gain ground on the leader toward the end of the race. He brought his Douglas Motorsport home in second place, continuing his impressive results over the last few rounds.
It was a good race and there was clearly a difference between the two cars. He drove away at the start but then I started coming in towards the end but unfortunately we ran out of laps. But around here I’m not sure I’d have got past so I need to work on those first few laps and see if we can get a bit more speed out of the car. But it was a good race for us and a great job by Douglas Motorsport and huge thanks to my sponsors FM Conway and Morgan Bros.
I’ll try and get a few places tomorrow without losing a front wing, or doing anything stupid and then we’ll go again for race three. We always go out to try and win but we’ll see what happens.
Race 2, which is a reverse grid meant Jewiss had to start his race in second last position. Speaking after race one, Jewiss said “I’ll try and get a few places tomorrow without losing a front wing, or doing anything stupid and then we’ll go again for race three”. He did just as he said he would do and would go again in race 3.
He certainly did go again! He took advantage of a great start to claim his first BRDC British F3 race win of the year. He catapulted himself into first position early on and was able to hold on until the lights signaled the end of the race.
To add to the celebrations, Ulysse de Pauw brought his Douglas Motorsport car home in third position, giving him his second podium finish of the year.
It’s about time, a long time coming, but what a way to go out in style at my home race with all the guys from FM Conway, my family and friends, it’s been great. Big thanks to them and Douglas Motorsport who have done a great job this weekend. I was hanging on out there a lot but we won the race so it doesn’t matter.
At the start I thought ‘here we go, that’s alright, we can pull out a gap’ but then he started coming at me and I thought ‘oh no, go away!’ But it’s been great and hopefully we can go forward to Silverstone and have another great result.
It was pretty hard because Clement (Novalak) was behind and he was putting a lot of pressure on me. I couldn’t build a gap as he was always with me but he never had a chance to attack me. I managed to keep him behind me and I’m pretty happy with that podium on my first time here.
The 1-3 finish means the team are working pretty well and I’m really happy for them.
