Douglas Motorsport Drivers Jewiss and De Pauw Shine in Donington Park Qualifying.

Qualifying for the final weekend of the F3 championship season took place earlier today at Donington Park and Douglas Motorsport drivers Kiern Jewiss and Ulysse de Pauw put on great performances to claim P2 and P3 on the grid for the first race respectively. Their grid positions were then replicated for race 3.

I’m glad to get it on the front row, we can race from there. I was worried about the guys in fourth to eighth as it’s very close and it’s very easy to be in that group and it makes the racing very hard. So very happy to be on the front row for both races, it will hopefully keep us out of the danger zone a little bit.

We’re certainly not going to win the championship, that’s for sure, but we can try and push for third but Ayrton [Simmons] had a good qualifying so it’s going to be pretty tough. He will need to have a bad race for us to get anywhere near third, but we’ll keep pushing and try and get another race win this weekend.

Kiern Jewiss

It’s the best qualifying of the season for the last race, so that sounds good! I had a good run, the car was really good and I could do two fast laps, maybe could have done a bit better but P3 to start off with in both races is a good place.

When you start P3 you obviously want to get on the podium but it will all depend on the first lap and the start. It’s going to be so close between us that it will be difficult to overtake I think, so the first lap and the start will be the key.

I’ve improved a lot with myself and my confidence in the car, also the use of the new tyres was a bit of my weak point before, but we are getting there and I’m quite happy with my progress throughout the season.”

British F3 Round 8 at Silverstone, and More Podiums for Douglas Motorsport

Round 7 of the 2019 British F3 championship took place at Silverstone this weekend with three races over the weekend.

All 3 drivers showed great pace during qualifying and resulted in a double pole for Kiern Jewiss, a 4th and a 5th place for Ulysse De Pauw, and an 8th and a 6th for Benjamin Pedersen.

Kiern Jewiss at Brands Hatch

Starting from pole in races 1 and 3, Jewiss finished both in 2nd place, and was pushing for the win in both. Although pleased with the two second place finishes, Kiern was upset to have lost out on the starts. In race 1, the eventual winner Sasakorn Chaimongkol was next to Jewiss on the front row with a new set of tyres. With slightly more grip on that side of the track he was able to overtake Jewiss and stay there until the end despite Kiern’s efforts to pass.

In race 3, and in second position after lap 1, Jewiss was quickest through the corners but slightly behind on the straights which made it impossible to get that first place finish. But, with a double pole which included a track record for British F3 and two second place finishes it was a good weekends work for Jewiss. A gain of 7 places from 15th on the grid in the reverse grid race meant Jewiss came away from Silverstone with a good points tally. He sits 4th in the overall championship table and has closed in on the top two drivers.

Ulysse De Pauw had a strong showing in qualifying and was unlucky not to make the podium over the weekend. He was battling for the podium in races 1 and 3 and made up 5 places in the reverse grid race, rising from 11th on the grid to 6th at the finish. Despite not making the podium Ulysse managed to come away with a good points total to put him in 5th position in the overall championship standings,  a position he’ll be fighting to maintain at the final round at Donington Park.

Benjamin Pedersen at Silverstone

Benjamin Pedersen showed good pace in qualifying but engine failure in race 1 while battling at the front meant a premature end to the day for Benjamin. Wing damage sustained in race 3 put paid to any chance of a good finish but it was race 2 that was the highlight for Benjamin. Starting last on the grid in 17th position, Benjamin managed to gain 7 places to finish in 10 place.

Double Pole for Jewis at Silverstone

Kiern Jewiss claimed a dramatic late double pole position in a very close qualifying session on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this morning (Saturday).

Jewiss left it until after the chequered flag had shown to put in his best effort, and jumped to the top of the timesheets with his last effort, with his time of 1m55.845s being the quickest recorded lap by a BRDC British F3 car on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. Jewiss’ fasted time put him at P1 for race 1 on Saturday and his second fastest time of the day put him on pole position for race 3 on Sunday.

Kiern Jewiss at Brands Hatch

It was a strong showing for all the Douglas team with Ulysse De Pauw starting from P5 in race 1 and P4 in race 3. Benjamin Pedersen starts from P8 in race 1 and P6 in race3.

“It was a good qualifying session, the car was amazing and the team did a great job. I’m very happy and what a way to do it with a double pole, and hopefully we can convert that into a win later on.

“On the out lap I always get a really good feel for what the car is going to be like when I do start pushing. It felt good so I had a bit of confidence straight away and I was fast. When the rain kind of cooled everything down it gave us one last chance to really go for it.

“I’d like to get another win, it would be nice but I’ll be under a lot of pressure and they’ll be coming at me pretty fast down the straights. The tow will play a big part I think.

“We’ve done a lot of development as the year has gone on, from where we were at the start of the year until now it’s been a good hard journey but now it’s all worthwhile.”

Kiern Jewiss

Double Pole

Race 1 starts at 14:25 today. Race 2 starts at 10:10 on Sunday followed by the final race at 14:55.

Round 6 of the 2019 British F3 championship took place at Brands Hatch this weekend.

It was a great weekend for Douglas Motorsport and Kiern Jewiss. A great qualifying session saw him come away with his maiden British F3 and a second place after managing to secure P2 for race 1 and race 3.

Kiern Jewiss at Brands Hatch

The weekend started so well with Kiern Jewiss posting great times in qualifying, he had enough speed around the track to earn P2 starting position in races 1 and 3. Starting position is vital at Brands as overtaking is difficult.

Jewiss was able to maintain his second place throughout the race and started to gain ground on the leader toward the end of the race. He brought his Douglas Motorsport home in second place, continuing his impressive results over the last few rounds.

It was a good race and there was clearly a difference between the two cars. He drove away at the start but then I started coming in towards the end but unfortunately we ran out of laps. But around here I’m not sure I’d have got past so I need to work on those first few laps and see if we can get a bit more speed out of the car. But it was a good race for us and a great job by Douglas Motorsport and huge thanks to my sponsors FM Conway and Morgan Bros.

I’ll try and get a few places tomorrow without losing a front wing, or doing anything stupid and then we’ll go again for race three. We always go out to try and win but we’ll see what happens.

Kiern Jewiss

2nd place, Race 1

Race 2, which is a reverse grid meant Jewiss had to start his race in second last position. Speaking after race one, Jewiss said “I’ll try and get a few places tomorrow without losing a front wing, or doing anything stupid and then we’ll go again for race three”.  He did just as he said he would do and would go again in race 3.

Kiern Jewiss at Donington

He certainly did go again! He took advantage of a great start to claim his first BRDC British F3 race win of the year. He catapulted himself into first position early on and was able to hold on until the lights signaled the end of the race.

To add to the celebrations, Ulysse de Pauw brought his Douglas Motorsport car home in third position, giving him his second podium finish of the year.

It’s about time, a long time coming, but what a way to go out in style at my home race with all the guys from FM Conway, my family and friends, it’s been great. Big thanks to them and Douglas Motorsport who have done a great job this weekend. I was hanging on out there a lot but we won the race so it doesn’t matter.

At the start I thought ‘here we go, that’s alright, we can pull out a gap’ but then he started coming at me and I thought ‘oh no, go away!’ But it’s been great and hopefully we can go forward to Silverstone and have another great result.

Kiern Jewiss

Winner, Race 3

It was pretty hard because Clement (Novalak) was behind and he was putting a lot of pressure on me. I couldn’t build a gap as he was always with me but he never had a chance to attack me. I managed to keep him behind me and I’m pretty happy with that podium on my first time here.

The 1-3 finish means the team are working pretty well and I’m really happy for them.

British F3 Championship weekend at Spa, Francorchamps 20,21 July

British F3 Championship weekend at Spa, Francorchamps 20,21 July

Round 5 of the 2019 British F3 championship comprised of three races over the weekend of July 20th 21st at Belgium’s Spa Francorchamp race track.

Spa-Francorchamp is a real favourite of racers and fans alike and is now a favourite of Kiern Jewiss after a weekend of impressive racing. After qualifying in 10th position for race 1 Jewiss made up 5 places to finish in 5th place. As race 2 is always a reverse grid Jewiss began this race in 14 position before making up 6 places to finish in 8th. His best result came in race 3 and from a starting position of 10th. Kiern managed to finish on the podium, in 3rd place. His charge to the podium was impressive, gaining two places on the opening lap, another two on lap three, and then moved past Ericsson on lap four to claim fifth. Setting the fastest lap of the race, he closed down on Maldonado and went up the inside of La Source before storming past Verhagen on the Kemmel Straight moments later to claim third. A great result for Kiern and Douglas Motorsport.

I’ve really enjoyed this weekend, I’ve actually been let free to actually go and race and I can’t wait to get to another track where hopefully we can overtake on and not be ruined by the downforce and losing it. I really enjoyed the racing, it’s a track I wasn’t looking forward to, I thought it would be one of my worst tracks of the year, but it turned out pretty good so I’m really happy.

The start wasn’t great, I was boxed in all the way and I had to keep my nose clean and don’t lose the wing, and then just chip away at the end. The car has been good after qualifying, we found a few bits and bobs that we could improve on, we touched up on those areas and then we were full steam ahead.

Kiern Jewiss

3rd place, Race 3

Kiern Jewiss at Spa

Ulysses De Pauw had a great qualifying session, taking 2nd place on the grid in race 1 and 5th on the grid in race 3. The reverse grid in race two saw him start from 12th position and make up 3 places to finish 9th, 1 behind Jewiss and 3 places being Benjamin Pedersen. 3 finishers in the top 9 for Douglas Motorsport. With a good chance to achieve a result in race 3, an unfortunate incident on lap 1 meant De Pauw had to pit to replace a broken wing on a later lap, something Benjamin Pedersen had to do a lap earlier. It was unfortunate as the team had another shot at all 3 finishing in the top 10.

Next up is Brands Hatch GP circuit for the next round, it promises to be an exciting one.

Round 4 of the 2019 British F3 championship comprised of three races over the weekend of June 22nd and 23rd at Donington Park.

Qualifying determined the grid for races 1 and 3 of the weekend, and it was Ulysse De Pauw who secured his best grid position so far this season for race 3. He would start in P2 for that race.

Kiern Jewiss at Donington

Race 1 saw De Pauw start in 5th, Jewiss in 8th, and Pedersen in 10th. The top 10 were only separated by a total of  .573s in qualifying. It was Kiern Jewiss who made the biggest impression on this race after he made it up to 4th position after lap 1, a lap which included an opportunistic move by Jewiss past two cars at the Fogarty Esses. Jewiss finished 4th on the road, De Pauw 6th and Pedersen 10th. However, after the presentations were made to the top 3 finishers, a Clerk of the Course decision put Jewiss up to 3rd place, giving Douglas Motorsport it’s first podium of the day. The decision also benefited De Pauw and Pedersen who finished in 5th and 9th places respectively. A podium, 2 cars in the top 5, 3 cars in the top 10, meant it was a good result for Douglas Motorsport.

Race 2 saw a reversal of fortunes for the Douglas Motorsport team. This time Benjamin Pedersen was the best of the finishers taking 5th position. Ulysse De  Pauw finished in 7th with Kiern Jewiss 10th.

Kiern Jewiss at Donington

It was race 3 that would deliver another podium for Douglas Motorsport. Ulysse De Pauw had qualified in P2 for this race and he made the most of the opportunity that he created for himself with a quick qualifying time, starting in P2 and bringing his car home in P2. This was Ulysse’s best result of the championship so far. A 6th place for Kiern Jewiss and a 10th for Benjamin Pedersen gave Douglas Motorsport another 3 car top 10 finish.

I’m really happy, and I want to say a big thank you to the Douglas Motorsport team. We were really close at Oulton Park and we struggled a lot with the pace at Snetterton and Silverstone with some difficult races, and it feels good to be back on the podium. The team have done a good job with the car and I was really comfortable with it this weekend. It feels great and I just want more now.

I hope to continue like this, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to continue like this. The pace was good here all weekend and I have more confidence now. I hope to go one step better at my home race next time out
