Randle fastest at Snetterton in LMP3, but Podium finish proves elusive

Randle fastest at Snetterton in LMP3, but Podium finish proves elusive

Thomas Randle returned to the Douglas Motorsport Ligier LMP3 for the penultimate weekend of the Henderson Insurances LMP3 cup. He partnered Mike Newbould over two races, two races in which Douglas Motorsport were unlucky not to make it onto the winners podium.

Consolation could be found in the fact that over two race days, Douglas Motorsport posted the fastest lap times in both races, thanks to Thomas Randle, a sure sign that the pace is there and we can hopefully turn that pace into podium places at the last meeting, That’s at  Donington Park, on the 16th/17th October

O’Keeffe Impresses in LMP3 Debut at Silverstone

The Henderson Insurances LMP3 Cup moved on to Silverstone for the weekend of July 1st and 2nd,

Douglas Motorsport F3 driver Callan O’Keeffe was given his sportscar debut in the Ligier LMP3, and what a debut it was. Qualifying fastest, O’Keeffe’s starting position was amended (as per the rules, no amateur driver took part in qualifying) and he started from the back of the grid.

O’Keeffe made a blistering start but spun at turn 1 in a bid to avoid contact. Despite this, the debutant made his way through the field and took the lead. However, as O’Keeffe was the solo driver in the Ligier LMP3, he had to server an extra 60 second penalty on top of the time required to stop for a driver change. This put him back down the field but in the closing stages he was able to make his way back up to P3 and this is where he finished, and impressive display for a debutant. To add to the result, Callan put in the fastest lap of the race, a lap record,  over .4 seconds ahead of the second fastest driver.

Callan O’Keeffe after Race 1:

“I wouldn’t say I made it easy for myself, obviously, I had a bit of contact into turn one because everyone got on the anchors a bit too early and I put myself into a bit of a spin,” said O’Keeffe. “We had a 60 second penalty, so to make up a total of 80 seconds to get back onto the podium is a pretty good effort.”

In race 2, Callan once again took the lead before the 60 second penalty put a stop to his lead. He would eventually finish P3, and once again record the fastest lap in the race.

“We managed to finish 12 seconds off the lead with the fastest lap of the race in both races, getting the Sunoco fastest driver of the weekend award. So, all in all a pretty successful sports car debut and hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m back in one of these.”
