Jewiss Delivers Hat-Trick of Podiums at Croft for Douglas Motorsport

Kiern Jewiss delivered another series of brilliant performances in the Douglas Motorsport Ginetta G40 at Croft Circuit at the weekend. He completed a hat-trick of second places in the overall race which has put him in 3rd place overall in the Ginetta Junior Championship – 2 points off second place, and extends his lead in the Rookie class to 88 points.

The last two weekends have been busy for the team here at Douglas Motorsport. The weekend of 20/21 May saw the Ginetta Juniors in action at Oulton Park, and the Ligier JPS3 of Mike Newbould and Thomas Randle was at the Brands Hatch GP cicuit for LMP3 Cup action.

The following weekend saw the F3 team take a win in the second race at Snetterton. Not only did Jordan Cane win the race, but, his team mate Callan O’Keeffe finished in 4th and kept his statistics of a podium at every meeting so far in the F3 car.

It was an exciting weekend of British F3 action at Snetterton,18698079_682584275258759_368336756314279665_n

Jordan Cane debuted for Douglas Motorsport and finished in 8th place in race 1, with Callan O’Keeffe just missing out on a podium place. This was to change however in race 2.

Jordan Cane, on his debut weekend, starting in pole position, was able to keep that position right up until the finish to give him an amazing win. To top it off for Douglas Motorsport O’Keeffe finished in 3rd position and challenged second place Das for much of the race. A double podium for Douglas Motorsport.

Jordan Cane after race two:

It’s amazing. We didn’t have a great day yesterday, because we knew our pace was quick in the dry, so we struggled in the wet in qualifying. I have to say thank you to the team because I only did one test for this team when they took me on, and my dad, because if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be here right now.

The first five laps Cameron was really putting pressure on me, especially into turn two, so it was kind of in that phase where do I defend or not, because if you defend you’re going to compromise your run out of the exit. We just managed to keep it there, keep it consistent, minimise mistakes and the second three-quarters of the race I started to pull a bit of a gap, and I was hoping these two [Cameron Das and Callan O’Keeffe] would fight a bit more, but I managed to get there in the end.

Callan O’Keeffe:

After yesterday when we finished in P4 we just wanted to get back on the podium again, knew it would be difficult starting P5, but I got a mega start, great first lap, and then it’s very much follow the leader round here unfortunately, try to put as much pressure as I could on Cameron. He made a few mistakes, but never really gave me the opportunity, so third place is good, I think we start P6 for the next one, so I’ll just try to do the same thing and try and get two places higher this time.

I’ve been on the podium every round so far, which is a good statistic to have, but we want to be on that step [first] rather than this one. It’s coming, we know it is, but a great job to the team, we’ve got cars one and three. It shows what a good job they’re doing, so thanks to them and hopefully the roles will be reversed next time.

Race 3 saw the duo finish just outside of the podium places, Cane in 4th and O’Keeffe in 5th. With former Douglas Motorsport driver Enaam Ahmed far out in front at the top of the leaderboard, O’Keeffe’s consistency sees him in 5th place and only 22 points to 2nd place.

Rounds 10,11 and 12 take place at Silverstone on June 10th and 11th

Randle and Newbould’s First Podium in LMP3 at Brands Hatch

Randle and Newbould’s First Podium in LMP3 at Brands Hatch

The second weekend of action in this years Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship saw the Douglas Motorsport team achieve their first podium of the series. After finishing 4th in the first race of the weekend, the second race of the weekend saw the duo of Mike Newbould and Thomas Randle both make up positions from their starting position of last on the grid.

Despite a 1 second stop/go penalty, Randle and Newbould brought the Ligier home in 3rd place, giving the team their first podium in LMP3 and Mike Newbould his first ever podium which made it extra special.

“It’s amazing, it’s my first podium so it’s extra special for me,” said Newbould. “Bring it on at Spa!”

“I’d like to thank Douglas Motorsport for their efforts, Mike for the opportunity and everyone back home in Australia for supporting me,” added Randle. “The car was fantastic and hopefully we can take that pace to Spa

Thomas Randle was the fastest in race 2 of the weekend, so let’s hope for more of the same at Spa in June. Spa was the location for Thomas Randle’s epic British F3 victory for Douglas Motorsport when he came from 9th position to finish in 1st, a win which included a now famous ‘bump draft’ with teammate Enaam Ahmed.

Oulton Park Review, Ginetta Junior Championship

The Ginetta Junior Championship visited Oulton Park on 20th-21st May die rounds 7 and 8.

The weekend saw Douglas Motorsport’s Kiern Jewiss come away with two overall podiums, a 3rd and a 2nd, after two close fought battles with Tom Wood. These two podiums meant Jewiss took the 2 rookie wins and the overall lead in the rookie championship. He leads the rookie championship by 48pts.

connor-grady2Connor Grady put in another solid performance, which resulted in him finishing 4th in round 8 which was his best result this season.

A seventh place finish in round 9 gave Douglas Motorsport 3 finishers in the top 7.

Daniel Harper had a tricky weekend with incidents off the start in rounds 8 and round 9. He did enough to bring the Ginetta G40 home in 5th place in race 2 and maintain his second place in the overall championship.

Tom Canning sees his 3rd place in the overall rookie cup slip away slightly after he lost out on points over the weekend to Ruben Del Sarte.

Ginetta Junior report from rounds 6 and 7 at Thruxton

It was another exciting weekend of racing for the Ginetta Juniors, with Douglas Motorsport drivers right in the mix in both rounds.

Daniel Harper set fastest laps in both of the races, in the first race he crossed the line in first position but a penalty for exceeding track limits lost him 5 seconds and placed him agonisingly 1 place off the podium in 4th place. In the second race Harper produced the performance of the weekend, having started in 16th position he was up to 10th by the end of lap 1 and made his way up the field, in the end finishing in 3rd place and on the podium. Harper sits in second place in the overall standings.

Kiern Jewiss made up for  a poor result by his standards in race 1 by finishing in 4th place overall in race 2 and more importantly took the rookie class win which keeps him in 2nd place in the rookie standings.

tom-canningIt was a successful weekend for Tom Canning who finished in 7th and 8th positions overall, but more importantly 3rd and 2nd in the Ginetta Junior category meaning a double visit for Tom to the podium at Thruxton.

Connor Grady, although he didn’t make the podium, was able to come away with two top 10 finishes, his 10th place in round 7 (race 2) ensure a top 10 finish  for all the Douglas Motorsport drivers.
