Harper has His Best Weekend Yet at Rockingham, Closes the Gap to Championship Leaders

The Ginetta Junior Championship rolled into Rockingham at the weekend (August 26/27), and it proved to be a successful weekend for Douglas Motorsport’s Daniel Harper.

harper-winWith two pole positions earned as a result of this two fastest laps in qualifying, his haul of two wins and a second place finish was his most successful result to date in his Ginetta Junior career, and it closes the gap on the top two drivers in the championship. Harper is in 3rd place now, only 16 points behind leader Tom Gamble. He has given himself a great chance of an overall championship win.

Daniel Harper –

This was my best ever weekend in the championship and I’m ecstatic. Two pole positions, two race wins and a second place, I really can’t ask for much more than that! It’s absolutely amazing and we really didn’t expect a weekend like this after a difficult Friday.

“Qualifying was superb for us and really set us up to fight for the wins like this. I really enjoyed all of the races, the racing was close and fair, and to come away with three more podium finishes continues our really strong start to the second half of the season.

“The results have put us right back into the championship fight and we’ve just got to keep going the way we are and try to carry this momentum into the remaining races. I’m really looking forward to going to Silverstone and hopefully we can enjoy another weekend like this.”

Kiern Jewiss had to be content with two rookie podiums over the weekend. He finished as third place rookie in race 2 and as 2nd placed rookie in race 3. By his standards the weekend was not as successful as he would have liked. But, he still has an outside chance of taking a place on the final podium of the overall championship while he still holds a commanding lead in the rookie championship.

Tom Canning was in the mix in the rookie races and was competing at the front of this competitive class.  He was unfortunate to miss out on podium places on two occasions.

Kiern Jewiss –

Just wasn’t my weekend at Rockingham. Now need to regroup and work twice as hard to get back to the front and stay in the fight

Randle fastest at Snetterton in LMP3, but Podium finish proves elusive

Thomas Randle returned to the Douglas Motorsport Ligier LMP3 for the penultimate weekend of the Henderson Insurances LMP3 cup. He partnered Mike Newbould over two races, two races in which Douglas Motorsport were unlucky not to make it onto the winners podium.

Consolation could be found in the fact that over two race days, Douglas Motorsport posted the fastest lap times in both races, thanks to Thomas Randle, a sure sign that the pace is there and we can hopefully turn that pace into podium places at the last meeting, That’s at  Donington Park, on the 16th/17th October

Jewiss Wins at Knockhill after Titanic Battle with team mate Harper

It was another strong weekend for Douglas Motorsport in the 2017 Ginetta Junior Championship. Finally, after nine 2nd places in this year’s championship, Kiern Jewiss took his first win, a very well deserved win.

The weekend started well with an all Douglas Motorsport front row in race 1, with Daniel Harper in 1st and Jewiss in 2nd. They both battled for the lead early on in the race, but both lost a number of places at separate stages of the race, however, both drivers were able to mount stunning comebacks. At the end of the race Jewiss was in 2nd place, ahead of Harper who was really impressive, having occupied 6th at one stage of the race.

Race  2 saw Kiern Jewiss start on Pole, with Harper one row back. Harper was able to make up places early on, and a mighty battle for the lead followed throughout the race. By the penultimate lap Harper had taken the lead, but Jewiss fought hard and found a way round his teammate to secure his first win!

Race 2 also saw Douglas Motorsport’s Tom Canning take his 2nd podium finish of this year’s championship, which meant Douglas Motorsport occupied the top two podium places in both the main and rookie races.

The stats for the weekend racing make for interesting reading – 2 Pole positions, Two cars on front row in race 1, 1 race win, 2 double podiums, 2 Rookie wins, a double podium in the Rookie class.in race 2.

The results from Knockhill mean the overall championship is wide open. Jewiss and Harper occupy places 3 and 4 in the standings and are both in contention for the championship, while Kiern Jewiss extends his huge lead in the Rookie championship.

Rockingham is next on the weekend of August 26th/27th

The BRDC British F3 Championship visited the Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch for Rounds 16, 17, 18 of the 2017 series.

Things got off to a bright start for Douglas Motorsport with Callan O’Keeffe clocking the quickest time over two days of practice on Thursday and Friday, and Jordan Cane rounded off the top 10.

The two Douglas Motorsport drivers were more closely matched in Saturday qualifying, Callan O’Keeffe qualified in 5th with Jordan Cane close behind in 6th, separated by only .067 secs. Race 1 was cut short by heavy rain, after a number of drivers skated off the track. When the red flag came out and the race declared after 8 laps, the two Douglas drivers had gained 1 position each, O’Keeffe 4th, Cane 5th.

Two cars in the top 5 was to be the highlight of the weekend for the team. In race 2 Jordan Cane was unfortunate to get caught up in a first lap accident, while Callan O’Keeffe finished in 7th. In race 3, O’Keeffe picked up another 4th position finish with Jordan Cane in 12th.

The penultimate meeting of the 2017 Championship is at Snetterton on 26/27 August.  There is no doubt that both drivers and the team will be pushing for podium places.

Harper Wins Twice at Snetterton, a Strong Weekend For Douglas Motorsport

Harper Wins Twice at Snetterton, a Strong Weekend For Douglas Motorsport

It was a strong weekend for Douglas Motorsport for Rounds 13,14,15 of the Ginetta Junior Championship at Snetterton.

Three Pole Positions (2 – Jewiss, 1 – Harper), 2 Wins ( Harper ), 2 second places (Jewiss – 2 Rookie Wins) and 3 cars in the top 5 of race 2, it was a successful weekend for the team.

It was Kiern Jewiss who kicked off the weekend with two pole positions from 2 qualifying sessions. Harper would line up alongside him in  race 1 and Connor Grady’s 6th position meant a heavy Douglas Motorsport presence at the front.

Race 1 saw Harper and Jewiss trade positions at the front. In the end it was Harper who took the spoils, with Jewiss only .08s behind.

Race 2 was, as always with Ginetta Juniors, a frenetic affair. Kiern Jewiss was on pole position once again due to his brilliant qualifying performance. Although he lost the lead from the start, he was able to regain it and stay at the front for most of the race, while everybody else jostled for position behind.

However, on the penultimate lap, second placed Gamble made a move for the lead, a move that ended with both himself and Jewiss on the grass coming out of the Bomb Hole. Kiern was able to keep going and got the car home in 5th position and some valuable points. The incident meant Dan Harper was now in second place, and he finished the race in second. However, a track limits penalty for several drivers saw the win handed to Dan, his second win of the day and valuable points in the overall championship. To add to this win, Connor Grady was able to bring his Ginetta home in 4th place which meant 3 cars in the top 5 for Douglas Motorsport.

On Sunday, race 3 saw Dan Harper on Pole. But, pole was proving to be an unlucky starting position this weekend, he fell back a number of places to 5th. Meanwhile, Kiern Jewiss, who started in 5th position, was in second place by the end of lap 1, and took the lead on lap 2. He would remain there until the last lap when he was passed, but he challenged all the way to the line, missing out on P1 by only .076s.

Meanwhile, Connor Grady was involved in a battle throughout the race but did well to finish in 9th. Tom Canning was 11th, just missing out on 4 Douglas drivers in the top 10. In the rookie competition Canning was 6th, 5th and d 5th respectively, a competition in which Kiern Jewiss is stretching his lead after every outing. He had two rookie wins and a rookie second place. His eyes, however, are on the big prize. He sits in third, while Dan Harper is in joint 4th, only 5 points behind.

It looks like the rest of this competition is going to go down to the wire. Well done to all the Douglas Motorsport team and roll on the rest of the season.

O’Keeffe Impresses in LMP3 Debut at Silverstone

O’Keeffe Impresses in LMP3 Debut at Silverstone

The Henderson Insurances LMP3 Cup moved on to Silverstone for the weekend of July 1st and 2nd,

Douglas Motorsport F3 driver Callan O’Keeffe was given his sportscar debut in the Ligier LMP3, and what a debut it was. Qualifying fastest, O’Keeffe’s starting position was amended (as per the rules, no amateur driver took part in qualifying) and he started from the back of the grid.

O’Keeffe made a blistering start but spun at turn 1 in a bid to avoid contact. Despite this, the debutant made his way through the field and took the lead. However, as O’Keeffe was the solo driver in the Ligier LMP3, he had to server an extra 60 second penalty on top of the time required to stop for a driver change. This put him back down the field but in the closing stages he was able to make his way back up to P3 and this is where he finished, and impressive display for a debutant. To add to the result, Callan put in the fastest lap of the race, a lap record,  over .4 seconds ahead of the second fastest driver.

Callan O’Keeffe after Race 1:

“I wouldn’t say I made it easy for myself, obviously, I had a bit of contact into turn one because everyone got on the anchors a bit too early and I put myself into a bit of a spin,” said O’Keeffe. “We had a 60 second penalty, so to make up a total of 80 seconds to get back onto the podium is a pretty good effort.”

In race 2, Callan once again took the lead before the 60 second penalty put a stop to his lead. He would eventually finish P3, and once again record the fastest lap in the race.

“We managed to finish 12 seconds off the lead with the fastest lap of the race in both races, getting the Sunoco fastest driver of the weekend award. So, all in all a pretty successful sports car debut and hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m back in one of these.”
